Working at companies and leading people has shown me one thing: Employees often have the believe that work must be hard, gloomy and unpleasant.
In my team, it is not. In fact, for a good team constellation, it is key to have motivated workers. Motivated by value - not by money, status or fame. A team should only consist of such people - people who found, or are willing to find their inner aspirations. People who are willing to become Aspirational Doers.
Everyone else is a waste of time - and of money. For themselves, their career - and for others working with them. They should not be conserved but released to the world, so they can do better somewhere else.
Why is it so important? It used to be good to be humble, to do the job (whatever it was)?
Well, things changed. Employement (at least in IT) means to give people a reason. A reason to stay (growth), exchange (connect), and to influence (act in autonomy).
Aspired Doers are loyal.
People will leave you when lead by other motivations then aspiration.
Aspired Doers are eager to grow.
When your company moves on, challenges change. Adjusting on roles for more important domains is required to grow sufficiently as a company. Employee roles will change and require to learn new things. People lead by other motivation then aspiration will not readjust or take the burden without giving them a new motivation.
Aspired Doers want to influence
When you want to do great things, you need great people. Every aspired Doer is an extremely valuable employee. No matter on which level they are, aspired Doers are aspired learners, and act in autonomy. If you give them a great challenge, they will create a great outcome.
That's why effective teams consist of aspired Doers. People who want to connect with the team, are eager to grow and love being an important part of the team.
I don't hire people that are working in obligation. I don't hire people in which faces I don't see the urge to become an aspired Doer. No matter how great their skills might be, they are no win for your long term goals - nor for your team.
Obliged Doers might make good consultants, analysts or Lawyers.
They are no good creators.
Creation requires inspiration. Inspiration requires aspiration.
