After starting my career as a lead, in my heart I am still a designer. I share the believe, that creativity is an essential inner part of expression and that it is the most essential element required in todays world.
More so, I believe that creativity is a healing element, that is bonding oneself with the world, and gives humans meaning and enables perspectives. Creativity is unfolding once an individual is enabled to express and materialize their inner values, experiences, feelings and knowledge in the world. Most people think about creativity as an abstract element, they have no access to. They think about painters, musicians and other artists - and because they don't feel alike, they decide to say: "I am not creative - that's not a talent of mine."
It is important to understand that creativity is not a talent. It is a fundamental need similar to secureness, recognition, curiosity, sexuality or affection. And unlike the perception in todays society, its not abstract at all. While it might seem volatile, creativity is can be extremely foundational and pragmatic.
In the field of design, creativity is the application of imagination on a complex dilemma. Facts are gathered to create context. This context is then used to inspire creative contributors to apply their inner world, their imagination and create something truly human. The beautiful part, and the reason why the results of applied creativity it is so human is because it is the connection between the outer world and an individuals inner world.
The best use of imagination is creativity. The worst use of imagination is anxiety. – Deepak Chopra
Our human nature fills us with a lot of imagination every day. We can channel this imagination into a creation in the outer world - if we don't enable its channel, it extracts its work in our inner world, which can result in anxiety, discontent and despair.
As designers and experts of interactive creativity it is our purpose - and obligation to activate creativity and collaborative creation in others.
Design delivers the tooling and processes to enable individuals in and outside design to channel and contribute their creativity, no matter of their previous experience. It does that in a manner that allows multiplication: By involving multiple diverse individuals collaborating on a complex problem, it creates a powerful network of creativity - the essence of a small society gathered for the purpose of creation. This leads to much very secular and practical results that often create the basis for new ways of thinking and problem solving in todays world!
